The Karerpass (Passo di Costalunga in Italian) sits at an elevation of 1,745 m (5,725 ft.) above sea level and can be found in the South Tyrol region in Italy. This great mountain pass joins Bolzano via the Eggental and the Welschnofen Valley with the Fassa Valley - offering a stunning view of the sapphire blue Karersee Lake if traveling on the Welschnofen Valley side. Those traveling this mountain pass are offered a 360 degree panoramic view of Ortler Mountain, the Cevedale massif and the Adige Valley - making this pass a more than worthy drive. There is also lodging, gifts shops, eateries, and a farm that rents horses at the top of the pass for those that want to stop and enjoy the area. It is suggested that motorists and bikers looking to visit the Dolomite Alps do so in the months of May, June and September - as July and August are the busiest summer months and can host some pretty intense traffic. Cardano and Pera di Fazzo are 2 routes that can be taken to reach the summit and this pass is available for travel all year around.
