This high mountain pass is situated at an elevation of 2,108 m (6,916 ft) in the Alps between the sections of Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in France. Col de Vars links the core of the Alps with the Col de la Bonette or Col de la Cayolle and navigated by the picturesque Route des Grades Alps. Those traveling this route can expect a bit of traffic due it being the only cross-road section of the Alps, but the spectacular winding roads are sight to behold once the traffic begins to circulate. This pass is accessible from May to October, but traveling should be planned accordingly in the event of snow. Those traveling through the southern region of this pass can expect to journey through a superb maze of curving roads and small mountain villages. Stop in the Alpine town of Gap for touch of old-town history and street markets with classic French aesthetic.
