Kaunertal Glacier Road (Kaunertaler Gletscherbahn) is positioned at the altitude of 2,744 m in the Austrian province of Tyrol—running from the village of Feichten. This high mountain pass is a favorite among motorcyclists for its 29 hairpin turns and vast scenic roads that seem to stretch on for miles. Kaunertal is also revered among winter sports enthusiasts and was expanded in 1980 to include the Kaunertal glacier area and provide access to those wanting to experience the beauty and majesty of the glaciers. Travelers can coast along this panoramic road leading directly into the tongue of the glacier. Those driving should come prepared to pay a toll-fee. Kaunertal Glacier Road is accessible June-August from 7 am-7:30 pm and 7 am-5pm all other months.

One of my absolute favorite roads in the Alps. The Kaunertaler Gletscherbahn is a dead end and you end up in a ski area on a glacier. The road has everything: wide curves in the woods at the beginning, steep serpentines up the dam, narrow road next to the sea and serpentines again up to the glacier in the end again. You have a good view around the corners and actually it was not too busy end of May. The view from top of the mountain at the glacier is just magnificent.

Will come back here every year, it is a good starter for a tour through the Alpes when you start in Austria.
